Also known as Little Bluestem Grass, schizachyrium is an excellent choice for native gardeners looking to bring texture, sound, and color to the yard. ‘Twilight Zone’ is special because it has nearly iridescent silvery/lavender/purple cast over the entire plant beginning in the middle of summer. We think it is aptly named because the blueish purple glow coming off this plant gives it a somewhat occult appearance. Perhaps it is something from the field of cryptohortoculture that Dana Scully keeps in her garden? Regardless, this native plant has great appeal for its coloration and strictly upright, narrow columnar growth habit. It has a wide variety of uses including: container planting, accenting a hardscape, border planting, adding vertical accent, or as a specimen plant.
