This particular cultivar has large blooms with many ruffles that transition through shades of pink as the summer advances. It is an easy plant to grow has resistant to disease and deer and is also incredibly rewarding.

The Peony is simply one of the most stunning of all garden plants and is a classic in the garden. They are useful in both formal and eclectic gardens in borders, mass plantings or hedges, but can also make wonderful specimen plants on their own. They make wonderful cut flowers for floral arrangements.

We sell these as two gallon plants, but what you'll be getting is 3 to 5 eyes, which will quickly grow into a lovely shrub. Due to their eventual size we don't offer potted shipping, rather we ship them in a moisture-loc bag ready to plant on arrival.

Caring for Paeonia 'Dr. Alexander Fleming' - Garden Peony

When you plant a Peony it is good to find a permanent home where the plant can settle in. The site should have full to part shade and protection from both the hot afternoons sun and harsh winds will prolong the life of the large flowers. Like most plants Peonies perform best in well drained soil rich in organic matter. They are drought resistant once established. If your soil is less than ideal remember you can always apply a yearly top dress of compost and mulch to improve your soil. When planting a Garden Peony, the depth is particularly important. To ensure flowering, the eyes must be planted 1.5 to 2 inches below ground level. Though peonies may be slow to establish, you can be assured that they are developing a deep, substantial root system which will help to produce flowers that are well worth the wait. Once established, Peonies can live 50 years or more.
