Description
The bald cypress is a large, fast growing tree. It is a deciduous conifer meaning the needles will drop in the fall and regrow in the spring adding to the charm by providing a beautiful coppery fall color. It makes a great lawn specimen tree adding texture to your yard with its feathery needled branches and fibrous reddish bark. If you have room plant multiple trees to use for the cover trees of a shade garden. Their airy branching with the fine needles allows for light to reach the bottom and their dropped needles provide good winter cover for the plants underneath. These trees are native to the southeastern wetlands and do well in wet soils but are also tolerant to occasional droughts.
