Description

We think you'll like this climbing clematis for its great purple color and large 3 to 5 inch flowers that bloom for months. Deep purple color with yellow high lights make the flowers of this popular clematis pop. It's fast growing, but also won't climb aggressively like some other vines. Clematis is an easy to care for vine that does well in a variety of conditions and even in pots. It will train easily to a trellis, post or fence.

Caring for Clematis 'Happy Jack'

We recommend that you prune clematis back in the early spring to make way for new growth - you can trim it back to 18 to 24 inches for best effect. In March or February you can apply a slow release fertilizer to stimulate new succulent growth. If you can find a location where the base of the plant is in shade and the rest of the plant is in sunlight that will produce the best results. Applying a thick layer of mulch will provide soil moisture for the plant and is highly recommended.
