Description
The Southern Magnolia or magnolia grandiflora is an evergreen tree that grows reliably in the south. This tree has broad and shinny deep green leaves that last all year long and in the spring it flowers with large white cup-like flowers whose pedals fall to create a white wreath beneath the tree. Where I am from - Louisville, Kentucky - the magnolia tree acknowledges that we are the gateway to the south, ancient and beautiful magnolias pepper the city keeping it green in the winter months and lighting it up in April leading up to the Kentucky Derby.
