The overcup oak is a very adaptable, hardy variety of oak. It can withstand inhospitable soils, flooding conditions, and can grow in partial shade. It has an oval to rounded open form with a smaller height and spread. For these reasons alone the overcup oak would make an excellent shade tree to an urban lawn but its versatility would make it an easy to grow shade tree for any landscape. It also has a lovely yellow fall color and produces acorns that are a favorite among wildlife.
