Allium always makes our list of top plants due its hardiness and natural resistance to pests and wildlife. We had a chance meeting with Proven Winners Serendipity at a trade show where Emily and I both found ourselves drawn to its display table. The density of the big pink blooms wowed us both in-person. With consistent performance similar to Millenium, Serendipity has larger bloom-heads and is slightly taller. This gives it a very full appearance and vase like shape that works in a range of applications. Specifically, in borders of neutral or contrasting colors, a cluster of Serendipity creates a showy pink/purple punch of color.

Blooms come on in midsummer from July the early September and are irresistible to hummingbirds, butterflies and other pollinators. Outside of the blooming season these ornamental onions form beautiful green clumps that do well to highlight the blooms of other plants. We recommend grouping of 3-5 plants, which planted out is around 2 to 3 square ft. for area of dense green upright foliage and bold splash of bright pink/purple summer color.

If you have poor soil or problems with deer or pests allium is an easy to grow plant with many rewards, just make sure the soil is well drained to avoid crown and root rot.

General care for any tree or shrub is easy, but like any living thing will require your attention. Please educate yourself and follow these simple rules.

Allium - Serendipity

Allium is easy to grow from full sun to part shade making it a very versatile plant. I will tolerate soil with any fertility making it a great choice for barren rocky soils and clay. Both disease and wildlife resistant it is a great plant for beginner and experienced gardeners alike.
