This North American native is easy to grow and will provide you with a unique and beautiful option for your landscape. Deep indigo flowers emerge from wonderfully dense, legume like, foliage. We like this selection because it stays upright as the plant grows into a 3' shrub. The purple flowers are deeper and a beautiful purple/blue that compliments a wide variety of plants in the garden and allow Baptisia to be used as a seasonal shrub.
The Decadence series was hybridized by Hans Hansen on Walter's Gardens. Hans is a talented horticulturalist who has introduced many different plants to market. We've met Hans and he has a passion for plants and an infectious enthusiasm that makes you realize he loves improving and trialing his new creations. Decadence was selected by Hans through trips into the American great planes, where he sought desirable characteristics in a wide range of baptisia and hybridized them into his own line of plants. You know that Decadence will thrive in our ecosystems because it is draw from one of the foundational plants of the American Prairie.
Baptisia is easy to grow and will thrive with little maintenance. There are many potential applications in the landscape including meadow plantings, as a backdrop in borders, or as a specimen. Plants are very long-lived once established as the deep tap roots of baptisia are evolved to survive the conditions of the North American prairie.
