BloomStruck® arrives in the garden as both a visual statement and a practical achievement. The large mophead flower clusters, reaching up to 5 inches across, open in vivid rose-pink to violet-blue depending on soil pH — acidic conditions push the blooms toward rich purple-blue, while alkaline soils favor warm rose and cranberry tones. What sets BloomStruck® apart from the broader world of Hydrangea macrophylla is its ability to produce buds not only on old wood in spring but continuously on new growth throughout summer and into fall, delivering a season of color that conventional bigleaf hydrangeas simply cannot match. The ornamental interest extends well beyond the blooms: the upright ruby-red stems provide striking structural contrast against the dark, glossy, serrated foliage, and as temperatures cool in autumn the leaves shift to rich burgundy-red, carrying the show right into the end of the season.

A compact, rounded deciduous shrub typically reaching 3–4 feet tall and 4–5 feet wide, BloomStruck® performs in Zones 4–9 with cold hardiness and heat tolerance that reflect its Minnesota breeding origins. It thrives in morning sun with afternoon shade, particularly in warmer climates, and prefers consistently moist, well-drained soil with a yearly application of balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Because it blooms on both old and new wood, pruning demands are minimal — simply remove dead wood in early spring and resist the urge to cut plants back hard in fall, which sacrifices overwintered buds. Powdery mildew resistance is notably strong, though some susceptibility to Cercospora leaf spot can occur in high-sun exposures, which dappled afternoon shade largely prevents.
