A close cousin of the popular Ruby Falls and Lavender twist, golden falls introduces the orange, gold, and yellow leaf coloration, similar to a rising sun, into the extremely popular weeping redbud form. Weeping redbuds are amazing trees for their ability to bring the timeless qualities of a redbud in a small package. Reaching only 4-6 ft. high, all you need is 4 ft. sq. wide and you have plenty of space for a weeping redbud. In early spring, tiny golden leaflets and clusters of purple/pink redbud flowers emerge creating a shimmers of color all along the tree. As the leaflets mature, they transform from orange, to bronze, to gold, to chartreuse, then lime green offering a magnificent display as long as the tree is growing new leaves. As growth slows down, the color will deepen into a lime or Kermit the Frog green depending on how much light it receives. The golden falls redbud was cultivated and introduced by the JC Raulston Arboretum at NC State University.
General care for any tree or shrub is easy, but like any living thing will require your attention. Please educate yourself and follow these simple rules.
