A native cultivar of penstemon, Husker red emerges with burgundy foliage that transforms to a darker burgundy green as it ages. The upright clumps of red foliage remind me of red wine and when the light hits them in the evening they take on a red semi-translucent glow. Growing around 30 inches tall these plants make a great backdrop in the back of the bed, white to light pink flowers combine well with cool and warm colors alike.

Husker Red Penstemon Digitalis - Beard Tongue
Penstemon is a great upright addition to a wildflower garden or garden bed. It provides great vertical appeal and stunning color. This selection is often used in soil restoration projects because it is very easy to grow and tolerates poor soils.
