Hyperion is a hybrid white flowering dogwood developed at Rutgers University with two goals in mind: Hardiness and bloom quality. As a result it is better suited for difficult planting conditions than most dogwoods. If you struggle to grow dogwoods, or have a site that is non-ideal (full sun or compacted soil) we would recommend you give a hybrid like Hyperion a try. According to Rutgers, trees have increased tolerance of drought, have almost no problems with powdery mildew and other fungal diseases, and display extreme vigor and rapid growth. In addition, the blooms are larger than typical and cover nearly the entire tree once it becomes established.

When choosing a dogwood it is important to remember that dogwoods evolved as moderate growers that prefer the edges of forests. They are a species evolved to partial sunlight and rich humus soils. Hybrid dogwoods were developed in order to make the dogwood population more resistant to disease and able to grow in conditions like full sun. We still recommend that you actively work to improve poor soil, before planting any tree and that you assess the site quality. Even though these dogwoods are more hardy, poor conditions will stress any tree. Like all dogwoods, hybrids require supplemental watering and careful applications of mulch during the first few growing seasons and during hot/dry periods.

Apache Red Flowering Dogwood has taken off

Packaged very well, planted immediately in early May, now just past May 29 has leafed out completely.. Very nice branching. I am impressed with the quality of the stock. Bought many exotic trees from them over the last few years. I love my Very rare Alley Cat Redbud.

Stellar Pink Dogwood Rutgan

Early May, received last 1 available, beautifully branched 3ft +, and was very dormant. Now coming to life on May 22 with vigous growth starting on all branches. Wrapped tightly and only one tip was slightly damaged of 15. Cannot wait to see full varigated leaves expanded. Thank you.

Dogwoods doing well

Two dogwoods (30 inches) arrived 2 weeks ago. The box was a bit beat up, but the trees were in excellent condition. Planted them according to instructions and they are waking up and looking good. Both trees came looking very healthy with nice branching. Would definitely buy from this nursery again (Boston).

Nice Trees!

I ordered two of these along with one raging red dogwood. They all arrived in the same box but were well packaged. All we're dormant when they arrived but all of them appear to be healthy and are leafing out. The customer service with this company is very good if not exceptional. They already had my order boxed up when I asked if I could swap out one of these with the raging red dogwood. They happily did it. I would definitely recommend this company
