Leucanthemum × superbum 'Becky', commonly known as Becky Shasta Daisy, is an outstanding perennial cultivar that has earned its place as one of the most reliable and beloved daisies in North American gardens.
'Becky' distinguishes itself from other Shasta daisy varieties with its exceptional vigor, heat tolerance, and extended blooming period. The plants produce large, classic white daisy flowers measuring 3-4 inches across, with bright white ray petals surrounding cheerful golden-yellow centers. These blooms appear on sturdy, well-branched stems that reach 3-4 feet in height, making them excellent for cutting and remarkably resistant to flopping without staking.
One of 'Becky's' greatest assets is its adaptability to various growing conditions. While it thrives in full sun with consistent moisture, it demonstrates better heat and humidity tolerance than many other Shasta daisy cultivars, performing admirably in southern gardens where others may struggle. The plant prefers well-drained, moderately fertile soil and benefits from regular watering during dry spells, though established plants show good drought resilience.
The flowering season typically begins in early to midsummer and continues for several weeks. Deadheading spent blooms encourages continued flowering and maintains a tidy appearance, potentially extending the display into early fall. The dark green, glossy foliage remains attractive throughout the growing season and forms a handsome clump that fills out nicely in the border.
'Becky' excels in mixed perennial borders, cottage gardens, and naturalistic plantings. Its bright white flowers provide an excellent contrast to purple and blue flowering companions such as salvias, veronicas, or catmints, and complement warm-toned perennials like coneflowers and black-eyed Susans. The long stems make this cultivar particularly valuable for cut flower production, with blooms lasting well in arrangements.
Hardy in USDA zones 5-9, 'Becky' requires minimal maintenance once established. Division every 3-4 years in early spring or fall helps maintain plant vigor and provides an opportunity to propagate new plants. The cultivar shows good resistance to many common daisy problems and generally remains healthier than older varieties, though adequate air circulation helps prevent any potential foliar issues in humid climates.
For gardeners seeking a dependable, long-blooming perennial with classic appeal and modern performance, 'Becky' delivers season after season, combining old-fashioned charm with contemporary garden resilience.

Leucanthemum superbum 'Becky' - Shasta Daisy
Leucanthemum require full sun to be at their best, so planting in a site that receives full 6+ hours of sun each day is essential. Winter drainage is essential and cutting back the flower heads and foliage in the winter can promote air flow and improve wet conditions, but we roots will kill Shasta Daisies, so if you experience wet winter conditions raised beds or containers are recommended.
