North Pole® Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis 'Art Boe' PP22,174, CPBR 3,912) delivers a tight, narrow column of dense evergreen foliage that holds its rich dark green color throughout the winter months. This Proven Winners® ColorChoice® selection reaches 10 to 15 feet tall with a slender spread of just 3 to 5 feet, making it noticeably more narrow than the widely planted 'Emerald Green' while offering superior winter burn resistance. The feathery, scale-like foliage grows in flattened sprays that create a handsome, full habit from top to bottom, and the plant shows impressive resilience against ice and heavy snow loads that can damage less structurally sound columnar evergreens.

North Pole® performs in full sun to partial shade across USDA Zones 3 through 7, adapting to a broad range of soil conditions with a preference for moderately moist, well-drained, fertile ground. Once established, it tolerates both heat and periods of drought, though consistent moisture during the first growing season and through fall helps maintain lush foliage and minimizes any chance of winter stress. This cultivar rarely requires pruning thanks to its naturally disciplined form, but it responds well to light shaping in early spring before new growth emerges. Space plants 3 feet on center for a dense privacy hedge, or use them as vertical accent specimens flanking entries, lining driveways, or anchoring mixed borders where year-round structure is needed.
