The oakleaf hydrangea - Hydrangea quercifolia - is a very versatile plant. This beautiful native shrub has a wonderful form and appearance that can be used in many landscape needs. If you are looking for a stand-alone shrub to highlight a garden or if you need multiple shrubs planted for a border the oakleaf hydrangea will perform. In the summer you will get large conical shaped flower clusters. These tiny flowers are a showy cream or white that will age to various pinks as summer turns to autumn. This shrub is also selected for its large oak shaped leaves that is unique to the hydrangea family. The oakleaf foliage has a nice dark green color that makes the white blooms pop through the summer and turns burgundy or dark purple in the fall. Oakleaf Hydrangea can be planted from shade to full sun, so for gardeners in need of a versatile and beautiful shrub it is an excellent choice.
