We chose Salvia Koyamae because we thought it would be fun to grow a large, shade loving non-invasive that can add a lot of texture to your garden. The plant works as a ground cover, but also has some height to it in spring it emerges with large leaves with tooth like edges. Through summer and fall it begins to bloom with yellow salvia flowers that native pollinators enjoy. If you're looking for a plant that can grow in shade among your hostas, tiarellas and coral bells. This is a great choice for adding unique texture and lovely yellow flowers late in the season.

Koyamae appreciates, rich, moist soil, and will grow in the shade of trees. It spreads slowly by creeping stems or seeds, and will naturalize an area of Woodland with beautiful textured shrub-like growth. It is not evergreen and will regrow quickly into a large mound each year.

General care for any tree or shrub is easy, but like any living thing will require your attention. Please educate yourself and follow these simple rules.

Japanese Yellow Sage - Salvia Koyamae

Easy to grow especially under a tree canopy or in an established forested area. The salvia is easy to care for with little or no maintenance. Soil should stay moist and may require additional watering in periods of drought, but with its tolerance of shade it prefers to grow in areas where direct sunlight isn't a problem and benefits dramatically from a layer of mulch, whether it be hardwood or leaf.

I ordered 3 plants. One arrived almost dead. Reached out and was told to send a photo.
I responded twice asking where to send the picture and no one ever responded to me.

Not so good arrival condition

First, I must say the price was great, but the condition the salvia arrived was terrible. The plants were to big for the boxes, the branches were folded over and broken.I trimmed them way down and will see if they will grow and bloom this year. It would have been better if they had been shipped before they were starting to bloom, would have fit the containers better.

Greg, thanks for the feedback. We take it seriously. If you wouldn't mind sharing photos of the plants when they arrived we'd appriciate seeing them. You can send them to our support@newblooms.com account. We do have a standard box size that we use for many of our squat/tough plants to keep shipping costs reasonable and the saliva stems do indeed often get taller the the box (esp. after April 1st) so we simply fold them down. Some will be OK and larger ones may snap. We find saliva is incredibly resistant to this kind of treatment, so TBH we usually don't think twice about it since they will bounce back with new blooms and growth when trimmed back or deadheaded. I suppose in the future we'll try and keep them cut back for our northern customers as the growing season wears on. Thanks. - Travis
