Developed as an improvement to the City Line series of hydrangeas, Wee Bit Giddy is a reblooming hydrangea with multihued flowers depending on the PH balance of your soil. Large panicles of pink/red to purple blooms cover this plant from early summer to fall. With proper soil addaments a striking mix of colors can be achieved. Although beautiful these hydranges were hybridized with toughness in mind. As a result they combine the toughness of the Let's Dance series with the full mopheads of cityline. They are an excellent choice for garden beds and foundation plantings. We haven't yet tried them oursevles, but based on trials we expect them to droop less in sites with full sun than other macrophylla varieties. Makes great cut flowers and blooms virtually all summer without deadheading. They also add interesting fall and winter texture to the garden if the panicles are left uncut.

Wee Bit Giddy® Bigleaf Hydrangea

Hydrangeas do well in areas that have well drained consistently moist soil that is free of compaction. prepare your soil by loosening it up with tilling or digging and then mulch well around the flowers to discourage mowers and other traffic. These hydrangeas should be pruned back int he spring removing any growth that isn't green when scratched with a thumbnail, but they can be trimmed to about 1 ft. to keep a tighter more compact appearance. Apply a slow release fertilizer in the spring for best results. Since they bloom on new wood vigrous growth is important for full blooming. Make sure that hydrangeas have high quality soil that is loose and non-compacted and also use a slow release fertilizer in early spring to maximize results. Prune in spring. The key to flower color is PH - low PH will result in Pink/Red flowers while more acidic PH will change blooms toward a blue/purple color. Soil PH adaments can be helpful in altering color and should be applied to the plants in ealry spring. The soil must be acidic (at least 6.5 or so) for the blue color to develop, and aluminum, a naturally occurring soil mineral, must be present. If you are not satisfied with the flower color in your yard, we recommend a soil test so that you know exactly what must be changed. We do not recommend applying any kind of treatment without a test as this tends to waste time and money.
